Two men from Coventry have been jailed after a major police operation saw a loaded gun and haul of ammo seized on the streets of the city.

Surveillance officers watched on as Matthew McKeown, 27 passed a manbag containing a revolver which it was found had already been fired three times, into a Mercedes on Scots Lane, Coventry.

Three empty rounds were found in the chamber of the gun, a St. Etienne revolver.

A further 15 loose bullets were also uncovered by cops when they stopped the car following the transfer of the weapon.

McKeown, of of Norman Place Road, Coundon, and Daniel Sheriden, 26, of Glencoe Road, Stoke, who was present at the deal, have both been jailed for nine years.

They were convicted of conspiracy to transfer the gun and ammunition at Birmingham Crown Court following a trial in January.

They were sentenced on Thursday (March 28).

Mercedes driver Waqar Iftikhar, 31, and passenger Mohammed Tahir Mirza, 33, were arrested when officers stopped the car following the deal on August 26 2017.

Iftikhar, of Sedgmere Road, Yardley, Birmingham, was found guilty of possession of the gun and ammunition and also jailed for nine years.

Mirza, of Treaford Lane, Alum Rock, Birmingham, was jailed for seven-and-a-half years after admitting possession of the firearm and ammunition, as well as cannabis production and handling stolen goods.

Mobile phone evidence showed Sheriden, Iftikhar and another man, Jamie Dunn, 37, met in Meriden on August 25 2017 to arrange the deal.

Following the seizure of the gun and ammo, McKeown and Sheriden went on the run but were traced to Skegness in June last year.

Jamie Dunn remains at large and is wanted by police in connection with the investigation.

In the stopped car, documents relating to a flat in the Erdington area of Birmingham were discovered which led police to 100 cannabis plants worth at least £28,000.

They also found a stolen Ford Escort on false plates at the address.

I wonder where the 3 bullets were used?
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.
