Mark Goodreid was crossing Wyken Croft in Wyken at around 7pm on Friday when a vehicle collided with him on his way to work.

Mark, 33, was left with a bloodied, swollen face and missing teeth and had to have a five hour operation.

The roof of his mouth was broken and was going in and out of consciousness.

His partner, Elizabeth Leitch has pleaded for the driver of the vehicle - believed to be a van - to come forward.

"He was crossing the zebra crossing outside Wyken Croft school when it happened.

"A car stopped one side so he walked out, looked the other way and nothing was coming but when he stepped out, he gets hit by a van.

"There is also a barrier, so we think he was hit by the van and then fell into the barrier after being hit.

"I was with my kids, but I got a phone call off him and he was going in and out of consciousness.

"I dropped my kids off at my mum's and went straight to him.

"There was a pool of blood on the floor and it was all just terrible."

Dad-of-five Mark had to have a five hour operation on Saturday night. He still remains in hospital.

Elizabeth added: "We have two kids together and he has three with his ex. Five children could have been left without a dad.

"He could have lost his life.

"I just want this driver to come forward.

"There is so much CCTV around and we're hoping the school has some too.

"He's got stitches and broke the roof of his mouth so had to have plates in there and a five hour operation.

"He's still in hospital, but this is life changing."

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "Police were called by paramedics to Wyken Croft, Walsgrave, Coventry, at 7.30pm on March 15 to reports that a man had been hit by a vehicle which then left the scene.

"The 33-year-old man was taken to hospital to be treated for facial injuries. It is believed he may have been clipped by a vehicle as he crossed the road.

"Anyone with information should contact police via Live Chat at west-midlands.police.uk between 8am and midnight, to call 101 anytime, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. Quote log 2466 of 15 March."

That can be a nasty road.

I saw a motorcyclist killed on the bend opposite the church when I was a kid.
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.
