Coventry man found not guilty of killing sister's ex-partner

A Coventry man who was involved in a struggle with his sister’s ex-partner during which the other man died has been cleared of his unlawful killing.

After he was acquitted, a judge at Warwick Crown Court told Jordan Laws, who thanked the jury as he left the dock: “You leave this court as a man of good character.”

Laws, 31, of King Richard Street, Hillfields, had pleaded not guilty to the manslaughter of 26-year-old Daniel Chapel during the incident in March 2019.

The jury who had been told to decide whether he had used excessive force or whether Mr Chapel’s death was just a tragic accident as they struggled, unanimously found him not guilty.
