A Coventry burglar who deliberately targeted elderly victims has been jailed.

Unemployed Robert Evans, of Downtown Close in Walsgrave was sentenced to six years behind bars.

He targeted elderly, vulnerable victims across the city by visiting sheltered accommodation, gaining access and trying door handles.

The 51-year-old managed to enter a number of rooms and stole money and sentimental jewellery between Thursday, December 6 and Sunday, December 16.

Evans was identified on CCTV footage peering through windows at a number of locations across the city.
What have police said?

DC Richard Walker from the Coventry High Harm team , said: “Evans callously identified his victims and purposefully targeted elderly and disabled people who he believed had a safe for their valuable possessions.

“He deliberately went to sheltered accommodation for the retired and elderly with the sole purpose of stealing from them and with the belief that he would have a number of opportunities to steal.

“I am happy to see this man behind bars for a crime that has affected vulnerable people’s lives in our community.”

Evans, who previously pleaded guilty to eight counts of burglary in December was jailed for six years at Coventry Crown Court on Tuesday (26 February).
