Police searching for a convicted criminal who absconded from prison were in Coventry this morning.

Jason Sufi - who is serving a nine-year indeterminate sentence for burglary, false imprisonment and robbery - has not been seen since he absconded from HMP Springhill in Buckinghamshire, on Wednesday, February 20.

Thames Valley Police are searching for the 39-year-old, who has known links to Coventry, and officers were spotted in Walsgrave Road, Stoke, earlier today.

A police van from Thames Valley was parked up alongside a West Midlands Police car and CoventryLive has been told that it was part of the searches for Sufi.

Thames Valley Police has stated that no arrests were made.

Sufi has been described as white, 5ft 6ins, with olive skin, dark hair and of medium build.

When he was last seen he was wearing a light blue tracksuit with socks over the bottoms.

He is known to have links to Reading, as well as Coventry.

Detective Constable Mark Kates, from Thames Valley Police, said: “We would like information from anyone who can help us to trace Jason Sufi.

“If he is seen, I would ask people to call 999, quoting URN 819 (20/2), or if you have any information which you think could be relevant to our investigation, please contact the non-emergency number 101.

“Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
