A teenager has been charged with murder in connection with a stabbing in Coventry earlier this month

Police and paramedics were called to Albany House in Brunswick Road at around 2.30am on Sunday, February 10 following reports a man had been stabbed.

Patrick Hill, 22, was found with knife wounds and taken to hospital – but died on February 13.

Levi Whitmore-Wills, 18, was initially charged with wounding, but was charged with murder last night (Monday, February 18).

He is due to appear before Birmingham magistrates today (Tuesday, February 19).

West Midlands Police detective inspector Hannah Whitehouse, from the Homicide Unit, said: “This was initially treated as a serious stabbing but we’re clearly now looking at a murder enquiry after the victim succumbed to his injuries.

“We understand a disturbance took place at Albany House – a multi-occupancy property – in Brunswick Road between 2am and 2.30am.

“I’d appeal for anyone who heard a disorder or saw anyone acting suspiciously to call us as they may have important information.”

Anyone with information should contact West Midlands Police via Live Chat at WMP Online between 8am and midnight, call 101 anytime or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. Quote log number 303 10/2.

A teenager who grabbed a hunting knife and stabbed a man through the heart during a row over a computer console has been jailed.

Levi Whitmore-Wills picked up the "fearsome knife" as he argued with two brothers over the £50 sale of a Playstation 4 while inside his girlfriend's flat in Coventry.

He plunged the knife through the chest of Patrick Hill and into his heart, leaving him with a horrific injury from which he would never recover.

Despite undergoing emergency surgery and the best effort of doctors, the 23-year-old died in hospital three days after being stabbed.

Whitmore-Wills, who was 18 at the time of the incident in February, was today (June 25) jailed for seven years after pleading guilty to the manslaughter of Mr Hill.

Judge Andrew Lockhart QC told him he must carry the responsibility of killing Mr Hill for “the rest of your life”.

Whitmore-Wills had been due to stand trial for murder, but instead entered a guilty plea to a charge of manslaughter which was accepted by the Crown Prosecution Service.

He was sentenced at Warwick Crown Court today and will serve half of his seven-year sentence in prison before being released on licence.
