Anthony Howard was jailed for four years - but appealed the sentence claiming it was too long
A drug addict who stole a VW Golf while the owner desperately clung onto it has failed to get his jail term cut.
Anthony Gary Howard, of Himbleton Drive, Binley, was locked up for four years and two months at Warwick Crown Court in July 2018.
The 32-year-old admitted robbery and dangerous driving, Mrs Justice Carr told London's Appeal Court.
Howard had 10 previous convictions for 27 crimes, including burglary, theft and handling stolen goods, many of which related to vehicles.
Today his lawyers argued his jail term was far too harsh and should be reduced.
But Mrs Justice Carr disagreed.
His punishment was not "excessive, let alone manifestly excessive in the circumstances", she said.
The judge pointed to Howard's "obvious determination to steal" the car, when the driver was nearby, making the "risk of violence a very real one".
He drove off in a "highly dangerous" manner and the woman's injuries "could have been far, far worse".
"The appeal will be dismissed," concluded Mrs Justice Carr, who was sitting with Mr Justice Julian Knowles.
