A Coventry nightclub branded an ‘absolute disgrace’ for hosting a 'pork pies’ event as a poke at Obesity Awareness Week.

The tongue in cheek event at The Kasbah on Monday, January 21, offers free pork pies at the end of the night, along with a pork pie eating contest on the main stage.

Kasbah is known for its mischievous reputation, but after uploading a poster on Facebook for the event, they came under fire with one woman commenting: "This is an absolute disgrace.

"Obesity is no laughing matter, you should be ashamed of yourselves.”

Kasbah’s social media team then replied: “Well now we know who ate all the pies.”

The comment has since been deleted off the Facebook post, but a Kasbah regular took a screenshot of the comments, which Kasbah’s official Twitter account then retweeted, prompting hundreds of retweets and likes, causing some people to be outraged.

Twitter user Grace Ruby tweeted: "Pretty out of order."

A spokesperson for the Kasbah nightclub said: “There only seems to be one person who has taken offence to this and we’ve messaged her directly to see if she would like to take part in the pie eating competition on the night.”

“Kasbah has always and will continue to be a snowflake-free zone.”
