Armed police were in the city this morning - responding to reports a weapon was being used in an attack against a teenager.

The special officers were called to the assault in Sandy Lane shortly before 9am this morning (Friday, January 11).

Three police cars were at the junction of Widdingtron Road and Sandy Lane in Radford, a busy junction during the morning rush hour.

West Midlands Police confirmed armed officers had responded to the incident.

A spokesman added that the original 999 call suggested that there was a weapon involved.

They told CoventryLive: "Police were called to Widdrington Road, Radford, at just after 8.45am today following an assault.

"The victim, believed to be in his late teens, was not seriously injured and enquiries are under way."

The force is now appealing for information, and any witnesses who might be able to help them.
