A rescue operation had to be launched after a man fell 40ft onto a railway track in Nuneaton.

Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service, West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS), Warwickshire Police and the British Transport Police were all involved in the drama close to Stoney Road.

A spokesperson for WMAS said they received a call at 7.43am on Saturday (December 29) to a report that a patient had fallen. An ambulance and a paramedic car was sent to the scene.

It is understood that the man had managed to scramble up the embankment but medics were unable to reach him.

WMAS called for back-up from the fire service and white watch from Nuneaton station was sent to the scene at 8.13am.

Crews managed to cut through a section of fencing so that paramedics could get to the man.

“A man was treated at the scene for multiple injuries, which were not believed to be life-threatening, before he was taken to the University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire,” the WMAS spokesperson added.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police added they were not treating the incident as suspicious.
