Arson arrest after woman rescued from flat fire

Police have made an arrest after a woman had to be rescued from a flat blaze by firefighters.

The woman was taken to safety after flames were spotted at a property in Skipton Lodge in Coventry in the early hours of this morning (December 27).

Firefighters from Binley and Foleshill stations were at the scene within minutes after a 999 call shortly before 12.30am.

Crew commander David Howells, from Binley fire station, said: "We were called to a flat fire at around 12.30am and two appliances and one response vehicle went to the scene.

"A crew from Binley arrived within five minutes.

"We committed crews with breathing apparatus and rescued one woman from the property. We also rescued a dog via a ladder."

West Midlands Police has now stated that a 56-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of arson in connection with the incident and remains in police custody.
