A key target in a sting to stop drugs turf wars in Nuneaton and Atherstone has been caged for Christmas.

Jake Wood, aged 22, of no fixed abode, has been sentenced to seven years in jail.

He appeared at Warwick Crown Court last week and pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis, possession of a disguised firearm, possession of a firearm when banned for life, possession of crack cocaine with intent to supply, possession of heroin with intent to supply and possession of criminal property.

Wood had been a key target of Operation Farrell, which has been running in Nuneaton and Operation Alarity, which was focused on Atherstone, to identify and catch dealers who are known to be responsible for bringing drugs into the towns.

It was the dedicated Offender Management Unit (OMU) that brought Wood to justice.

Back in April Wood was arrested in Nuneaton by officers who were on patrol as part of Operation Farrell and he was found to be in possession of cannabis and a stun gun.

Wood was arrested again in August after OMU officers went to a house in Barsby Close.

He ran from the house and was caught by officers following a foot chase. He was found to be in possession of crack cocaine, heroin and cash.

Analysis of a mobile phone seized found a series of text messages relating to the sale of drugs.

Following investigation by the OMU, Wood was charged and he appeared at the crown court on Thursday (December 6), where he pleaded guilty and was given his prison sentence.
