The design features a silhouette of Lady Godiva on a white background with Sky Blue on either side, and was selected after a competition run by BBC Coventry and Warwickshire.

It was chosen from entries submitted by six finalists.

The idea was to mark Coventry’s success as UK City of Culture 2021 with the city’s first flag.

The final entries were chosen by a panel of expert judges, including Lord Mayor John Blundell.

Coventry is celebrating a year since it was awarded the coveted City of Culture title, and the flag is intended to symbolise important elements of its heritage.

Simon Wyatt from Hatton in Warwickshire submitted the winning design featuring Godiva, whose medieval naked protest on horseback around Coventry streets in protest against taxes is an international legend, and whose statue can be seen in Broadgate in the city centre.

The colour ‘sky blue’ has been associated with the city since it was adoped by Coventry City Football Club under the then successful manager Jimmy Hill in the 1960s.

The flag has been raised today outside Coventry’s Council House and the Ricoh Arena, the BBC reports.

Disgusting is this the best they can come up with I suppose it fits in with the designed mess of the town.

What's up with our own emblem being used.
