The last year has seen a 425 per cent increaseCoventry City Council has spent more than £333,000 of taxpayers' cash on keeping ex-staff from claiming against them in the past three years.
Over £200,000 of that was handed to just seven staff in the last year.
Compromise agreements, also known as settlement agreements, are usually struck up when an employee facies redundancy or workplace issues and leaves.
An employer typically asks the employee to sign on the dotted line in return for a pay-off, while they can also have confidentiality orders attached.
This year alone Coventry City Council paid out a whopping £210,500 to departing staff - a 425 per cent increase on last year.
The sum was given to a total of seven staff in 'people directorate', whose responsibilities range from schools and libraries, to public health and social care for children and adults.
Two staff from 'place directorate', who deal with issues such as bin collections, street cleaning, road repairs and planning applications, also received a slice of the cash.
In 2017, £40,208 was paid to four employees all from people directorate, while in 2016 £82,922.80 was paid for three in place directorate and four in people directorate.
