Armed police were called out to reports of a man being attacked with a ‘blunt weapon’ on a Nuneaton street.

They responded to calls about an assault in Church Road at 9pm last night (Sunday, November 4).

Officers closed off the road at its junction with Arbury Road while they dealt with the aftermath of the attack.

It has been confirmed that a 27-year-old man, who has not been identified, was injured with what has been described as a ‘blunt weapon’ and suffered injuries to his chest and abdomen.

He was taken to the George Eliot Hospital by West Midlands Ambulance Service and has since been discharged.

Detectives are now heading up enquiries into the attack and want to hear from anyone with any information.

Detective Inspector Lisa Sears, based in Nuneaton, said: "We are currently conducting a number of enquiries and are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident last night to please come forward.

"If you have any information, please call Warwickshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 389 of 4 November 2018."

A 28-year-old man from Nuneaton has been arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault. He is currently in police custody where he is being questioned.
