A Nuneaton school was put on lockdown due to fears about two intruders on the site.

Hartshill School has confirmed it conducted a lockdown procedure earlier today following reports of two intruders being on the school grounds.

Students were not allowed to leave their classrooms and reports suggest some were led to safety.

Police were called out and carried out a sweep of the whole school grounds to look for the duo, one of which was suspected to be a student who had been excluded.

This search proved to find no intruders.

In a statement provided to CoventryLive , the school said: "Following an incident that involved two intruders onsite, one of which may have been a student excluded some years ago, Hartshill School conducted a lockdown procedure on the afternoon of Thursday 18 October.

"Police attended the site and have swept the building and grounds to ensure the intruders were no longer onsite.

"Parents were informed via text message that their child may be leaving later than planned.

"The school followed the correct lockdown procedure to ensure the safety of all students and staff members."

A spokesperson for Warwickshire Police Force said that a 999 call was made at 2.27pm.

"Officers carried out a search and found there was no risk to students or staff,” the force spokesman added.
