Gun and hammer gang threaten family in Atherstone home raid

Mon Oct 15, 2018 11:03 pm

Children were in the house when the trio struck

A gun and hammer gang left a family terrified by threatening them with the weapons after bursting into their home.

Detectives say that while they were not injured, the family was left 'frightened' after their ordeal earlier during the early hours of this morning.

A spokesman for Warwickshire Police said that the family, including children, were upstairs asleep in their home in Watling Street, Atherstone, when three men broke into their home.

The trio, armed with a gun and a hammer, threatened the family before stealing cash, bank cards, car keys and a white Mercedes.

Detective Inspector Lisa Sears said: "Our enquiries are ongoing and we are appealing for witnesses.

"This was a frightening experience for the family and we would urge anyone who has information to contact us."

The force spokesman said that the car has since been traced, at an undisclosed location in Coventry.
