A man remains in hospital with critical injuries this morning after the second hit-and-run in the city in two days.

The pedestrian, thought to be around 60 years old, was crossing St James Lane in Willenhall, near to the junction with Middle Ride, at around 7.20pm when he was struck by what is believed to be a white Audi which failed to stop.

Passers by stopped to give him emergency first aid before paramedics rushed him to hospital for surgery.

The tragic incident happened just the day after a young man, believed to be in his 20s, was killed in a hit-and-run while crossing Allesley Old Road in Chapelfields.

CoventryLive has contacted West Midlands Police for an update on search for the Audi driver believed to be involved this morning.

Officers were last night carrying out forensic examinations at the scene, with the road closed.

Police want to speak to anyone who witnessed the hit-and-run - and are urging the driver involved to "do the right thing".

The driver left the scene and headed towards Binley.

Sergeant Alan Wood, from the force's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "The Audi we believed to be involved will have collision damage and we would urge the driver to do the right thing and contact us.

"A man is in a critical condition in hospital, so we would also appeal to anyone who has CCTV or dashcam footage of the Audi, which made off towards Binley, to get in touch."

A man who was left on life support after a hit and run has returned home to his family.

Terry Clarke was left in hospital in a critical but stable condition following an incident on St James Lane on Monday, October 8.

Passers-by stopped to give him emergency first aid before paramedics rushed him to hospital for surgery following which he was put on life-support.

The car involved is believed to be a white Audi A3 or S3 and Sergeant Alan Wood, from West Midlands Police's collision investigation unit, has said he is "certain there are people who know who was driving this car at the time of the collision – please come forward and let us know".

It is hoped the footage will lead to the driver being identified.

Terry is now back home in Willenhall with his family and friends, just in time for Christmas.

He had a surprise at the weekend when professional boxer Neil Simpson paid him a visit with a special hamper.

Clel Sneddon, a friend of Terry's was there when Neil presented it to him.

Clel said: "From what he tells me he has carers coming in six times a day at home.

"He has undergone major surgery and is totally overwhelmed by the public support from Willenhall and the rest of Coventry.

"The man is a real fighter, he was so shocked to see Neil Simpson turn up as he was not aware Neil was presenting him with a food hamper."
