A serious collision has closed a main road into Nuneaton town centre after a car careered into barrier outside an old folks home and flipped onto its roof.

Police have closed the northbound section of Coton Road, heading into town, following the serious crash on Sunday, September 23.

It is understood that a car careered into 40ft of fencing outside Aldersgate retirement home and flipped onto its roof.

Traffic officers closed the road while medics tended to the driver, who has not been identified.

It is understood that he has since been taken to hospital.

At the time of publication, the road remained closed off.

The southbound section of Coton Road, heading out of the town centre towards Attleborough remains open.

It is unclear how long the stretch of road will be closed for.
