A schoolboy was hospitalised in Coventry this morning following a collision with a bus.

Longford Road was closed for a little over an hour after the incident, which took place a few minutes before 9am.

Thankfully, it appears as though the boy escaped without serious injury, suffering what ambulance staff described as "chest pain, leg pain and face cuts".

It is believed that the bus in question was a Stagecoach Gold, on the 48 route, from Coventry to Leicester via Bedworth, Nuneaton and Hinckley.

West Midlands Police attended the scene, but did not remain for long, and the bus was able to continue on its journey.

The incident took place outside a convenience store on Longford Road. Ranjit Singh, who runs the store said: “It was 8.54am when it happened. The bus was coming out of town and had stopped at the crossing.

“(After the boy was struck) I gave him some water. He had some injuries to his face and leg and was obviously shocked.

“The driver and some passengers got off the bus immediately and a car going the opposite way stopped at the crossing and the driver got out to help.”

That crossing needs changing even I won't cross unless the Green man comes on which both sets of lights turn red which is nt always so. If a bus comes into the bus lane from Bedworth one side of the lights are on red to let the bus through while the one coming from Coventry is still on green.

Agreed Melisandre, it is a very dangerous crossing because it is so easy to misinterpret it.
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.
