Just picked up a thread on social media that one of the injured may have died. :(
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.

Murder investigation launched after man stabbed in city centre dies

One of the men found with stab wounds in Coventry city centre early this morning has died.

West Midlands Police has now launched a murder enquiry in relation to his death.

Police were called just before 5.30am this morning after reports of disorder in the city centre around Club M in Croft Road.

A 21-year-old man found at the rear of the club in Hertford Place was taken to hospital but has sadly died this afternoon.

Another man, aged 23, was also found with stab injuries a short distance away in Queen Victoria Road just five minutes later.

He remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital following surgery this afternoon.

A 23-year-old man arrested in City Arcade a short time after the attacks on suspicion of grievous bodily harm, remains in police custody tonight.

Detective Inspector Harry Harrison, from the homicide unit, said: “We are aware that numerous people who were at the club at the time could have witnessed what happened and I would urge them to contact us with any information no matter how insignificant it may seem.”

The young man who died today after being found with stab wounds in the city centre has been locally identified as Coventry legend Neville Staples' grandon.

The 21-year-old, named locally as Fidel, died at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire this afternoon after being found at the rear of Club M in Hertford Place at around 5.30am this morning (September 1).

A murder enquiry has now been launched by West Midlands Police.

Specials star Neville Staple WILL play Godiva after death of grandson

Image

The Specials star Neville Staple will play at the Godiva Festival this afternoon just a day after his grandson was killed in a knife attack.

His family said the show will go ahead in tribute to 21-year-old Fidel who died in hospital after being stabbed in the stomach near Club M on Saturday morning.

The performance by the Neville Staple Band on the main stage at 4.40pm will also be used to highlight the horror of knife and gun crime.

Mr Staple's wife, Christine, told the BBC: "Our daughter Melanie said she wants us to still do it.

"Neville wants to dedicate the performance to Fidel and we want to do a little bit of highlighting while we are there and use our profile for something good by highlighting just what is going on at the moment with the young people and the things that are happening with knives, and in some cases guns, on our streets.

"Fidel was just so handsome, so sweet, such a charmer, anyone who met him would always say 'he's just so wonderful, what a lovely boy'.

"But he had become a man, he'd reached 21, and he was just lovely, just amazing and I just can't believe he is gone still, I really can't.

"I think we are all still in shock really, we're still quite numb. We did a lot of crying yesterday and a lot of stressing."

Police bid to close city club linked to murder investigation

Image

Police have launched a bid to shut a city centre nightclub linked to the murder of the grandson of Specials star Neville Staple.

An interim injunction to close Club M, on Croft Road, will be sought by West Midlands Police at Coventry Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, September 5.

It is understood they wish to close the club for 28 days until a full hearing into the venue's licence can take place.

A notice put up by West Midlands Police outside the premises alerted the public to its decision to apply for a closure order of 24 hours.

The order prohibited the club from opening on Saturday night.

The premises could now be closed for a further 28 days if a police application to have its license reviewed is granted.

Fate of Coventry's Club M decided at licensing hearing

Club M has had its licence suspended after the grandson of The Specials singer Neville Staple was found stabbed near the club at the weekend.

During a licensing hearing at Coventry City Council today, the club was told to close immediately for a period of 28 days until a full hearing - unless the club formally responds.

Cllr Patricia Hetherton, chairman of the Licensing and Regulatory Committee, said: “We have resolved to suspend the premises’ licence of Club M pending a full review hearing.

“The committee considered the licensing objectives, which include crime and disorder and public safety, and felt that the premises pose a serious risk to the public if they remain open.”

The committee heard there had been reports of previous disorder associated with the club and reports of breaches of licence conditions.

A full review will now take place in order to establish whether the club should lose its license permanently or not.

At a full hearing the police will present evidence to support its application while the club will also be given the chance to present a case in its defence.

Man arrested over alleged murder of Neville Staple's grandson

A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of murdering The Specials’ legend Neville Staple’s grandson Fidel Glasgow.

Fidel, 21, died in hospital hours after being stabbed outside Club M in the city centre in the early hours of Saturday (September 1).

Today (Monday, September 10) police arrested a 23-year-old Coventry man on suspicion of his murder. He is being questioned at a West Midlands Police station.

Detective inspector Harry Harrison, from the force’s homicide unit, said: “We have not let up in our search for Fidel’s killer and this is significant progress in our investigation.

“However this does not mean that we no longer need witnesses to come forward. I am still appealing for anyone with information to get in touch. It may be the crucial bit of the jigsaw that we need.

Club M to become late-night crazy golf centre

The nightclub at the centre of a fatal stabbing in Coventry city centre is set to be turned into a late-night crazy golf venue.

Fidel Glasgow died after being found fatally injured at the rear of Club M, in Hertford Place, on September 1, while another young man was found with multiple stab wounds nearby.

The nightclub had its licence temporarily suspended and police chiefs in Coventry wanted to see it completely revoked in the wake of the death of Fidel - who is grandson of Coventry ska legend Neville Staple - and a host of other violence incidents over the past months and years.

However, it was decided today that the licence would instead be "modified" with a new premises supervisor taking over the licence with a "new business model" in place.

Police officers at the meeting said they believed this effectively leads to the closure of Club M as a nightclub.

The decision was laid down by Coventry City Council's licensing and regulatory sub-committee.

The venue will be ran by John Barrett, who is currently the licensee at Club Heat and Samoan Joe's in Coventry, and is not expected to open any earlier than eight weeks time as "refurbishment" takes place.

It was agreed that the venue, once reopened, would be able to serve alcohol until 2am and would close at 2.30am, compared to 4.30am and 5am under the Club M licence.
