Free water, what more could you want?

Coventry residents will be able to refill their water bottles for free across the city - thanks to a brand new scheme.

Severn Trent and Coventry City Council have teamed up with local businesses and not for profit organisation City to Sea to offer people tap water for free.

The project has been rolled out successfully in a number of towns and cities across the nation, and Coventry is just the latest set to see the benefits.

According to Severn Trent, the refill project aims to promote free tap water, with the purpose of helping the environment by reducing the use of plastic bottles - as well as keeping people hydrated .

Liv Garfield, CEO at Severn Trent said: “We’re passionate about the environment at Severn Trent, and the Refill Project is a brilliant way to help reduce unnecessary plastic waste, as well as encouraging people to keep healthy and hydrated by drinking tap water for free.

“We’ve had fantastic response from businesses signing up to the project on our launch day, and received plenty of support from Coventry City Council who are keen for even more businesses to sign up, and get behind this worthwhile project for the City.”

Coventry City Council Cabinet Member for Public Health and Sport, Cllr Kamran Caan, said: "I’m very pleased that we have officially launched the Refill Project in Coventry. I’ve always had a vision to deliver directly to the people and I think Refill does just that.

“Not only is this something that will be of benefit to the environment, but there are also lots of health benefits including: promoting healthy hydration and contributing towards reducing obesity by cutting down on sugary drinks.

"This is a free way of keeping healthy when you’re out and about which I would encourage everybody to take advantage of.

“This is a great initiative, and I do hope many more businesses consider signing up to the project, allowing people of Coventry to enjoy the ease of refilling their bottles.”

The Refill project works by encouraging businesses to sign up to the App, where customers can see where they can fill up their water bottles for free in the city.

Local businesses who sign up around Coventry will display the Refill logo, letting people know that they can refill their water bottles for free inside.

The Refill app is available for download for free on both Google Play and the App Store, and anyone wanting to find out more or wants to sign up, can email Severn Trent at Refill@severntrent.co.uk

Water refill scheme now launched in Leamington

Image

Businesses in Leamington are being encouraged to sign up to a new Refill scheme which will help combat the war on plastic waste.

The Refill scheme has launched in Leamington, which encourages cafes, bars, restaurants, banks, galleries, museums and other businesses to sign up to the free Refill app and put a sticker in their window alerting passers-by to the fact they can fill up their bottle for free.

The scheme also helps to encourage people to use re-usable bottles that can then be refilled at these businesses – in turn reducing the amount of single use plastic waste.

Laura Tyler, from Plastic Free Leamington and Warwick, who is launching Refill Leamington, said: “Here in Leamington we’re rightly proud of the area’s stunning countryside, rivers and canals. Plastics, including single-use plastic bottles, are now the most frequently found type of litter on UK beaches and you don’t have to look far to find them littering our towns and green spaces too.

“Refill Leamington gives us all the opportunity to help make this type of litter a thing of the past at the same time as saving money. It’s good business sense as well, as customers view businesses that provide free water refills more favourably and are more likely to return to them to make future purchases.”

Is this just tap water? Not that I am hugely interested as I never drink the stuff. Just think of the disgusting things ducks do in it.

I thought pubs were under an obligation to do this anyway?
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.
