Residents are taking matters into their own hands to protect wildlife from plastic waste
A community clean up is taking place in a bid to protect the city's wildlife after heartbreaking photos emerged of a swan eating what appears to be a black bin bag.
Swanswell Park in the city centre has been blighted by litter, in particular plastic waste like bottles, shopping bags and food packaging.
Photos sent to CoventryLive on Twitter last month showed the extent of the problem, with one particularly shocking image showing the swan eating the plastic bag.
The large pool, which is the centre point of the popular park, is home to many ducks and swans and residents are now taking matters into their own hands to protect them.
A community-led clean up of the park has been organised for this Saturday (August 25) starting at 10am.
Anybody can take part in.
