A national movement to prevent children going hungry during school holidays is helping to feed hundreds of kids in Coventry.

Millions of youngsters across the country suffer with hunger over summer while parents struggle to feed them.

A charity based in the city said it has been shocked at the numbers turning up to activity sessions where meals are handed out.

Coventry is one of nine areas piloting a programme to tackle holiday hunger, which is partly funded by government money gained through the sugar tax.

Feeding Britain, the charity behind the initiative, have been awarded a share of £2 million from the Department for Education to provide over 20,000 activity and meal sessions to children.

Several projects in the city are providing hot meals and activity sessions to children free of charge for families struggling with the additional costs of the holidays.

Organisers said the numbers turning up have been staggering.

All of this is because of government cuts and welfare reform, the government are in denial because they refuse to believe that their policies create poverty. Their kind of policies always create a disparity of wealth. All of this supposed, saved money has gone back up to the wealthiest, and to help pay off private contracts for businesses and bonuses for themselves and their mates and to pay for the mistakes that they have created, such as the proposed money to deal with the homeless epidemic etc. Where’s the opposition? Oh yes of course, they are too busy dealing with their own self-inflicted problems, such as anti-Semitism, wreath laying for muslim “terrorists” etc. What a sorry state of affairs.

Jock Strap that is why when they bought in the saying we are all in it together they really meant all the parties are all in it together they did nt mean them and us. Hence no opposition.

It is a very sorry state of affairs Jock.

This country is rapidly descending into a third world **** hole.
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.
