Firefighters rescue man found with multiple stab injuries from house blaze

Police have arrested one man

An arrest has been made after a man was found with multiple stab wounds in a burning building.

West Midlands Police have launched an investigation after fire crews alerted them to the house fire on Holyhead Road in the early hours of this morning.

Firefighters rescued the man from the blaze before alerting police.

The ambulance service treated the man for injuries to his face, chest and hands before transporting him to hospital.

Fire crews from Coventry and Foleshill attended the incident.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: "Police were called to Holyhead Road, Coventry by West Midlands Fire Service just before 3.30am today (2 August).

"Firefighters dealing with a blaze at the address found a man with serious injuries to his hands, who had also been stabbed a number of times.

"A second man has been arrested.

"The investigation is at an early stage and officers are trying to establish how the man came by his injuries."

West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed it was called to Holyhead Road at 3.16am this morning.

Two ambulances and a paramedic officer attended the scene.

A spokesman said: “On arrival, crews discovered a man who had been rescued from a house fire by the fire service.

"He was treated for injuries to his face, chest, shoulder and hand and transported to hospital.

“We also treated a second patient, a man, for a hand injury before he was also transported to hospital.”
