The company providing water across Coventry and Warwickshire loses more than a bath full of water per house per day due to leaksWith the first hosepipe ban of this year’s heatwave announced for customers of United Utilities in the North West, figures highlighted by GMB, the union for the water industry, show hot weather water use and a lack of rain isn’t the only thing leaving less water in reservoirs.
According to the most recent figures available, Severn Trent, whose HQ is in Coventry, lost 431.6m litres a day due to leaks in 2016/17.
Leak levels at the company equated to 122.2 litres per household per day - a full bath tub is about 80 litres, and a washing machine cycle
is about 50 litres.
On average, a person uses about 150 litres of water each every day.
The figures, from a Consumer Council for Water report, show levels of leaks at Severn Trent have fallen slightly since 2012/13.
In total, water companies across England and Wales lost 3 billion litres of treated water every single day in 2017.
