Bomb disposal experts were called to a block of flats in Coventry following the discovery of a World War Two shell.

Officers from the Royal Logistics Corps and West Midlands Police, along with police dogs, attended William Batchelor House in Leicester Row at 3pm on Tuesday, July 17.

It is unclear if the shell was dug up in the grounds, or retrieved from a flat.

The block of flats was not evacuated during the incident.

The bomb disposal unit was at the scene until around 6.45pm.

Soldiers could be seen carrying a red box into the back of their van.

West Midlands Police issued a statement at around 6pm.

The statement read: "Officers are currently at a block of flats in Leicester Row, Coventry after receiving a report of the remnants of a possible WW2 bomb being found just before 3pm.

"The shell is currently being investigated and the EOD (explosive ordnance disposal) are being informed."
