Armed robber raids Coventry bookies at gunpoint

An armed robber held up a Coventry bookies at gunpoint and left with cash from the till.

The raid happened this morning at William Hill bookmakers in Far Gosford Street at around 10.15am.

The gun man entered the shop and threatened a member of staff.

He then walked out of the shop with a quantity of cash taken from the till.

Anyone with information is asked to call West Midlands Police on 101, giving log reference 817 of June 28.

Cov bookies robbery suspect appears in court

A man who was charged after a Coventry bookies was held up at gunpoint has appeared in court.

Ian Chambers, aged 34, was arrested on July 10 following the incident on [Far] Gosford Street on June 28.

He was charged with robbery and possession of an imitation firearm.

Chambers, of no fixed address, appeared before Coventry Magistrates Court yesterday (July 12).

The case was then sent to Warwick Crown Court for a hearing on August 9.

He has been remanded in custody until then.

Man admits robbing Coventry bookies at gunpoint

A man has admitted carrying out a gunpoint robbery at a bookmakers in Coventry.

Ian Chambers was armed with the gun when he entered the William Hill shop in Far Gosford Street at around 10.15am on June 28.

He threatened a member of staff before leaving with a quantity of cash taken from the till.

Chambers, 34, of no fixed address, was arrested two weeks after the raid and charged with robbery and possession of an imitation firearm.

He appeared at Warwick Crown Court today where he pleaded guilty to both charges and will now be sentenced on September 28.

Chambers will also be sentenced that day for offences linked to a separate incident, including shoplifting, theft, possession of an offensive weapon and handing stolen goods.
