A planning application has been approved for the build at the rear of the cinema

A major high street coffee shop chain will be adding to their branches in Coventry as one is set to be built behind the Showcase Cinema.

The proposed site is located within the Showcase Cinema grounds, situated on the north of the roundabout at the Gielgud Way and Oliver Way cross.

It is bounded by Showcase Cinema to the North-East and North-West, Brewers Fayre Pub to the East, Pizza Hut to the South-East and Burger King Drive Thru to the West.

Access to the new building is proposed to be gained via the front of the building by Gielgud Way, and the right hand side of the building by the road entrance to the existing car park.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like Costa is making this one a drive thru branch.

The planning application states it was submitted for 'full planning permission for the erection of a Costa Coffee (Use Classes A1/A3) with associated access, car parking and landscaping'.

Fifteen parking spaces, including one space for wheelchair user, one space for delivery, and four bicycles racks are proposed to offer easy access by vehicles and bicycles within the car park.

CoventryLive has contacted Barton Willmore, the agents who submitted the application.

They have not yet responded to requests for more information about when building work will start.

There are already 11 Costa Coffee shops in Coventry.

The nearest one to the Showcase branch is at University Hospital Coventry - which probably won't be the first choice for people.

There's already branches in the city centre, Cannon Park shopping centre, Warwickshire Shopping Park, Gallagher Retail Park, Arena Park and several others.

The opening times for the new Showcase branch will be 7am until 10pm everyday.

Although planning for the site has been approved, it is not known when work will start.

It's hardly an earth shattering development, there's one at the local garage! :clown:
