A mini night-time crimewave has hit a Nuneaton community – with six break-ins in just 90 minutes.

Nuneaton Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) say that in just 24 hours they received a string of calls about burglaries, attempted-break-ins and a number of suspicious incidents across the Whitestone area.

This includes, on Wednesday, May 30, six break ins in just 90 minutes.

With more incidents taking place in the following 48 hours, the SNT in charge of the area are appealing to householders to be extra vigilant.

They say a number of operations now underway to catch the suspects – who are using a tool to snap the locking barrel on back doors.

“We have received a number of calls to report burglary, attempted burglary and a number of suspicious incidents taking place in the early hours,” an SNT officer said.

“It appears offenders are using a tool to snap the locking barrel on the rear of properties in order to gain entry in a relatively silent manner. I personally visited all of the victims and it's no coincidence that all of the properties owned high performance vehicles, one property unfortunately had their VW Golf Gti stolen. Various operations and taskings are now in place and we are being pro-active in our attempts to catch these unwelcome visitors to our Neighbourhood Policing area.”

They are appealing to people to upgrade their house locks to anti-snap locks as well as utilising steering locks for vehicles and ,for keyless cars, to consider buying a Defender pouch.

“Please call in any suspicious activity via 101 or 999 in an emergency,” the SNT added.
