Overflowing bins and fly-tipped rubbish have left residents fed up in one area of the city - and now local councillors are demanding action.

Photos show bags of waste left in a heap outside houses on Gibbons Close in Tile Hill and residents claim bin collections are regularly missed.

Councillors are concerned that residents may face problems with vermin and maggots, as a well as a nasty stench with the hot weather setting in.

Conservative councillor Peter Male, Woodlands ward, criticised the Labour-led council for not tackling the issue sooner.

He said: “These problems have been going on for nearly six months now and I just don’t understand why it’s so difficult for the council to get this right.

"With the warmer weather setting in this mess will no doubt be an attractive proposition to maggots and vermin so it’s becoming a serious public health issue."

In January this year household waste, including a mattress and a door, was dumped at the site.

Cllr Male added: "This has created an attractive spot for people looking to dump other waste so we now have a fly-tipping problem too.

"This is just not acceptable and we are demanding the council resolve this issue once and for all.”

Local resident Maggie McGee slammed Coventry City Council after rubbish was left piling up outside her home.

"Nothing is getting done about it," she said.

"The amount of rubbish piling up is absolutely disgusting. I'm ashamed of our council."
