A charity's former warehouse could be demolished to make way for student flats.

The warehouse on Sovereign Road, Earlsdon , once provided storage space for the Community Transport charity, which provides transport and collects and recycles secondhand furniture for people in the region.

Now a planning application has been submitted to Coventry City Council asking for permission for it to be demolished.

In its place, if the application is approved by councillors, will be student cluster flats.

The flats would be built in four individual units.

There would be a total of up to 38 bedrooms created for students.

Applicant Mr H Cheema has also applied to increase the number of car parking spaces at the property.

They would rise from four to seven.

The flats would all use shared facilities.

There has been an influx of planning applications for student developments in the city recently.

Up to 50 studio flats for students are to be built next to Belgrade Plaza in Coventry city centre, it was revealed yesterday (May 22).

The existing Ringway House in Hill Street will be transformed and given a roof extension to provide room for the new flats.

The current five-storey building already has planning consent for the conversion of the first to fourth floors from offices to residential use, but there are now proposals for the ground and lower ground floor to be converted.

I remember when it was Cecil Jeffs' machine tool factory. Before that I believe it was a dairy. Previous applications to build domestic residences on the site have been turned down on the grounds that the location is totally unsuitable.
