There's uncertainty as to when the store will reopen

A city centre shop has been forced to close today after burglars smashed a window and raided the store.

The thugs struck the Superdrug store in Hertford Street in the early hours of this morning and grabbed a large amount of fragrances from behind the counter.

The window was almost folded in half and left barely attached to the window frame after the looters smashed it.

Shattered glass covered the shop floor, with Marie Curie cancer pin badges scattered among the debris.

The fragrance shelves at the store were half emptied by the looters, who struck just before 1am.

Police are now investigating the incident.

The beauty shop is hoping to reopen tomorrow, but there is still uncertainty over whether all the repairs will have been made by then.

Only customers who need to collect prescriptions that don't have to be paid for are allowed into the shop today.

Superdrug has asked customers to visit its other store on Market Way while repairs are made.
