Robbers struck a mobile phone shop at a Coventry retail park - assaulting a member of staff before looting from the store.

Police were called to the Carphone Warehouse shop, located within the Arena Park Shopping Centre, on Tuesday evening to reports of a robbery in progress shortly after 5pm.

Officers say they believe two men assaulted a member of staff, before stealing four phones from the display stands.

Thankfully, it appears as though the staff member has escaped injury, despite West Midlands Police revealing that they were hit in the head with an unknown object.

West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed that they were not called to any incidents in that vicinity at the time.

A Carphone Warehouse spokesman told CoventryLive that: "The safety and wellbeing of all our staff and customers is our utmost priority.

"The investigation into this incident is ongoing and anyone with any further information should contact the local police.”

CoventryLive asked Carphone Warehouse for an update on the wellbeing of the staff member who was struck during the robbery, but the company did not respond.

Police have confirmed that enquiries remain ongoing, and anyone who may have information is being asked to call police on 101, quoting log 1957 of May 1.

Leonce, 25, of no fixed address also admitted to committing an offence while subject to a suspended sentence, which was also for stealing mobile phones.

He was jailed for 36 weeks at Coventry Magistrates' Court - 26 weeks for the new offences and 10 weeks imposed from the suspended sentence - and made to pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Dutton, 27, of Plumstead in London, and Ohio, 26, of Lee in London, were both given 26-week prison sentences suspended for 18 months and ordered to pay £185 court costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Hardly a disincentive to other would be thieves is it?
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.
