HMRC has brought petition against Boro Leisure Limited - but supporters group says it has been told the case was to be dismissed

The company that runs Nuneaton Town Football Club was facing a winding up order in the High Court today.

The taxman brought the winding up petition before Royal Courts of Justice in London in relation to Boro Leisure Limited, which owns the town’s club.

But the Nuneaton Town Supporters Co-operative has posted on Twitter that it has been told by club chairman Lee Thorn that the situation has been resolved with HMRC and the order was to be dismissed in court today.

It reads: "The Co-operative have been informed by the football club chairman that the winding up order against the club was addressed a few weeks ago and the order has been dismissed. As per previous statements, we seek to meet the club to discuss matters and how we can support the club."

But there has still been no official confirmation from the club itself. CoventryLive has seen a screenshot of an email, apparently from HMRC, which states the debt was settled and that the order was to be dismissed in court today.

CoventryLive has made repeated attempts to contact the Boro chairman for a comment about the hearing. Contact was made with the league and HMRC but nether was able to comment on the case.

Nuneaton Town FC up for sale as chairman quits

A new era awaits Nuneaton Town Football Club as the club and ground have been put on the market again after its chairman sensationally stood down.

Lee Thorn announced on Saturday night that he was stepping down from the helm of the club after more than three years.

In doing so, he revealed that he would also be selling the club and the ground.

In what was a hat-trick of announcements, it has been announced that the club will be reverting back to its former name, Nuneaton Borough, as of next season.

This was an ambition that the club and Nuneaton Town Supporters Club (NTSC) set out to do in November last year.

It is the second time that the club and ground has been put on the market.

Last time, there was some interest from Chinese buyers but a sale did not come to fruition.

But Nuneaton Town Supporters Club (NTSC) could now step in and try and play a part in the club’s future.

In a statement NTSC say that they have already had ‘positive’ responses to plans to make the club part-owned by the community but need to make them ‘concrete’.

My guess is the supporters won't be able to offer anything like the amount the owner is looking for.
