Coventry residents are being urged to support England in their last World Cup group qualifying game on Wednesday - by two giant hedgerow figures.

The city council has given the two football fans on Fletchamstead Highway roundabout England flags to hold.

Councillor Ed Ruane said the idea was to get behind the football team.

"We are doing our bit to cheer them on and who knows what will happen," he said.

The 9ft (2.7m) figures have been on the island for the last two weeks but have only just been given the flags.

"We have had the footballing figures there before, but obviously because of the weather and growing conditions, they cannot be there all the time," he said.
