It was not what Nuneaton cops were expecting to find

A call-out to a burglary led to police finding a cannabis farm inside a council flat in Nuneaton - but the plants had already been stolen.

Officers responded to a 999 call from a member of the public to report a break-in at a property in Lexington Court but officers found something very different when they arrived.

Through a broken window they spotted what was the remains of a cannabis farm.

All that was left were a few dried out plants but, according to officers, it was clear that any healthy crop inside the property had been stolen.

They contacted Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council , which runs the flats, and staff quickly boarded up the property.

A spokesperson for the Town Hall said legal notices have now been served and they would be repossessing the flat.

“The police requested that we attend an insecure property and a cannabis farm was found," the spokesperson said.

"We have made attempts to contact the tenant but to no avail, therefore we will be instigating our abandoned property procedure.

"The necessary legal notices will be served at the property this week and we will be requesting possession of the property on expiry of the notices.

"We will continue to work in partnership with the police in the meantime."

Crack cocaine and heroin seized by cops

Community intelligence led to cops stopping suspected drug dealers near to a block of flats in Nuneaton.

Officers from the Offender Management Unit (OMU) and Nuneaton Central Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) swooped on two men near to Lexington Court earlier today (Wednesday, June 27).

They stopped and searched the pair after a suspected drug deal had taken place.

An undisclosed amount of crack cocaine and heroin was seized.

Officers arrested a 20-year-old man, who has not been identified, and a 23-year-old, who has also not been identified.

They were taken into custody at Nuneaton Police Station and were due to be questioned.

The OMU are tasked with keeping watch over prolific offenders across the borough and Atherstone , including drug dealers, burglars, ‘high risk’ domestic abusers and sex offenders.

Anyone who has any concerns about the use or supply of drugs in their community should call 101 or the Crimestoppers hotline, which is free to call from a landline and confidential, on 0800 555 111.

Cops swooped on a suspected drugs den inside a Nuneaton flat and found a carrier bag full of heroin nearby.

Members of Nuneaton Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) swooped on an address in Lexington Court.

They were forced to smash a window to get inside and found a undisclosed amount of crack cocaine and heroin inside.

Two men fled from the address and a chase ensued.

During this, officers found a black bag with a plastic carrier bag inside containing a large amount of Class A drugs.

They arrested a man from Birmingham, a man from Nuneaton and a woman from Nuneaton.

All three were taken into custody yesterday afternoon (Friday, September 21) and, at the time of publication, were still being questioned.
