The TGI Island is set for a huge overhaul to try and get traffic moving

These are the first glimpses of how the new-look TGI Island on the A46 will look after undergoing a major makeover.

A huge transformation is set to take place at the roundabout where the A46 and A428 meet in Binley , which is a notorious traffic blackspot on Coventry’s roads.

The images have been released by Highways England, which says the plans are part of the government’s £15.2billion road investment strategy.

Improvements will also be made to the Walsgrave junction - where the B4082 meets the A46 - as part of the major scheme.

But work will start first at the TGI Island in spring 2020.

The plans will see the A46 dual carriageway turned into a flyover to separate local traffic from those using the A46.

It should ease traffic jams in the area and make journeys quicker as less traffic will have to use the small roundabout.

As well as major changes to the road network, the existing combined cycle and footpath around the TGI Island junction will be extended.

Lighting will also be installed under the flyover to make it safer for pedestrians and cyclists.

The work is set to be completed by spring 2022.
