Motorists will be faced with long overnight diversions over the next two weeks, as a major route is set to close for roadworks.

A section of the A46 between Warwick and Coventry is set to be shut overnight over the course of the next two weeks, as highways crews resurface the carriageways.

However, though the work will take place on one side of the carriageway at a time, the planned diversion route will force motorists into a seven-mile diversion.

Signs have been put up alongside the road, warning motorists of the upcoming work.

Set to run from February 19 to March 3, the first week will see the northbound carriageway shut between 8pm and 6am, with the southbound lanes shut for the same amount of time during the second week.

The diversion route advises drivers to drive around Kenilworth , to bypass the works.

One Telegraph reader has slammed the “ridiculous diversion”.

She said: “Let’s see how many more accidents occur on the bends between Kenilworth and Balsall Common, and also lorries having to negotiate field gate lane and new street.

“Not forgetting the lights get turned out at midnight in Kenilworth to make matters worse.”

Perhaps knowledgeable locals will find their own diversions to avoid the road works. I expect those who complain most would be the first to complain about pot holes in the road.
