Murder investigation launched after triple stabbing as one man dies

A murder investigation is underway after man died from a stab wound he sustained during an incident in Nuneaton.

Police have confirmed that the victim, who is aged in his 30s, has died following a "disturbance" in Barpool Road earlier today.

They have now launched a murder investigation into the incident , which led to part of the road, at its junction with Vernons Lane, being taped off.

The murder victim and another man arrived at hospital with serious stab wounds shortly after the incident.

The other man, who has not been identified, remains in hospital in a "serious condition".

Detective Inspector Teresa McKenna said: “This investigation is still in its very early stages and we are trying to piece together the exact series of events, specifically what happened at the scene and how the two injured men got to the hospital.

“We believe the disturbance occurred in the street in the middle of the day so we’re in the process of speaking to a number of witnesses as well as looking at CCTV near the scene and at the hospital.

“It is important we speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or who has any other information that may help with our enquiries.”

Armed officers responded to 999 calls about a 'disturbance' and discovered weapons and a man with a head wound.

This man was taken to hospital and also placed under arrest on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon.

Police have said it was reported that another two men then arrived at hospital with serious stab wounds. It is one of these men who sadly later died.

It has been revealed that a fourth man, aged 53 from Nuneaton, was arrested on suspicion of affray.

Anyone with information should call 101 and quote incident 52 of February 20.

Details can also be passed on via the Crimestoppers hotline, which is free to call from a landline and confidential, on 0800 555 111 or via http://www.crimestoppers-uk.org

Hospital order for Nuneaton street row killer

Image

A man has been made subject to a hospital order after admitting killing a man in an argument in the street.

Bradd Darby, 30, was stabbed in Nuneaton on 20 February 2018 and died in hospital.

It happened after a row broke out between him, his killer James Norton, and three others, police said.

Norton was sentenced earlier after admitting manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility at a previous hearing.

At Birmingham Crown Court, the 30-year-old, of Toler Road, Nuneaton, was also made subject to restrictions under section 41 of the Mental Heath Act indefinitely, with both sentences to run concurrently for his manslaughter offence, along with wounding with intent, unlawful wounding and possession of an offensive weapon, all of which he had also admitted.

He had originally been charged with Mr Darby's murder before his plea was accepted.

Dale Barnwell, 31, of Attleborough Road, Nuneaton, and Mr Darby's father, Glenn Darby, 52, of Abbotsford Road, Nuneaton, had previously admitted violent disorder in connection with the argument and, at the hearing on Friday, were both given a two-year supervision order and two-year suspended prison sentence to be held for two years.

They were also ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid work and made subject to a curfew.

A fourth defendant, Sam Stretton, 25, of Aberdeen Road, Nuneaton, who has also admitted violent disorder, remains subject to an outstanding bench warrant.
