More than 200 new homes will be built near to Tile Hill train station.

The plans for land off Cromwell Lane were yesterday approved by Coventry City Council’s planning committee.

This gives UK Land Development and Heyford Developments permission to create the 240-home estate on farmland previously located within the Green Belt, but which now forms part of the housing allocation following the adoption of the new Local Plan.

The site, which will include 25 per cent affordable housing, will be accessed from the western side of Cromwell Lane with an emergency access and pedestrian/cycle link from Alan Higgs Way to the north of the site.

It also surrounds Westwood Farm, a Grade II listed farmhouse with ancillary buildings, but will be built around the building and not affect it.

There had been a number of objections regarding issues such as the loss of green belt, increased traffic and insufficient infrastructure, but approval was given with the condition that the developers contribute towards infrastructure improvements through a Section 106 agreement.

Some of the money will be used to improve the traffic signals at the nearby busy crossroads where Till Hill Lane, Tanners Lane, Station Avenue and Banner Lane all meet.
