A major incident at Marston Green railway station has caused severe disruption to train travel to Coventry this afternoon.

Police have confirmed that a person has been hit by a train at the station, which has caused all trains running between Birmingham New Street and Coventry to be cancelled at this time.

The line is one of the main lines in the country, linking London with the Midlands and beyond, and with disruption expected until at least 4pm, it looks set to be a miserable evening for commuters.

A spokeswoman for British Transport Police said: "A person was struck by a train at 12.54pm on Friday and police and ambulances are at the scene.

"It's an ongoing incident."

All major rail operators who run services on that line have provided updates on social media to customers, with alternative routes suggested.

Unfortunately for those in Coventry, the only public transport running between the city and Birmingham at this time is the X1 bus, a 90 minute journey running from Coventry Bus Station to Birmingham Moor Street.
