This was the scene on a main road in Coventry last night after a cannabis farm overheated - and burned down a house.

Police say a substantial amount of cannabis went up in smoke, as the illegal makeshift factory caught fire.

Police and fire crews were called to the scene, in Walsgrave Road, Stoke , with the house well ablaze.

As they tackled the blaze, firefighters from Coventry Community Fire Station made a stunning discovery - a large crop of cannabis plants.

Officers from West Midlands Police ’s Coventry and Solihull Force Response team assisted fire crews at the scene, and revealed that the factory caused the blaze, which has caused substantial damage to the property.

Posting on the Coventry and Solihull Force Response Twitter, an officer said: “D unit officers in Coventry supported Coventry Fire last night at the scene of a house fire, caused by a substantial cannabis factory set up inside.

“Can’t help but wonder if ‘going up in smoke’ like this was what the owner had in mind when they planted their crop!”

A picture, taken from the scene shows that at least three fire engines were deployed to the scene.

Despite taking place on a busy route into the city, no major travel disruption has been reported this morning.

Doesn't exactly look "burned down" as claimed by the Telegraph yesterday?
