Four masked men carrying a hammer and a bladed weapon forced their way into a Stockingford home and stole money and jewellery.

Detectives from Warwickshire Police have issued an appeal on the incident which took place at a property on Barpool Road.

Four men forced their way into the property yesterday.

The men, described as white, wearing masks and carrying a hammer and a bladed article, are reported to have demanded money from the occupants of the house.

Police were called shortly after 7.30pm, after the men escaped in an unknown direction having taken money and jewellery from the house.

Detective Sergeant David Andrews of Nuneaton CID said: “We’re thankful no one was injured during this incident, but it was clearly a distressing ordeal for the victims which resulted in family jewellery with great sentimental value being stolen.

“I’d like to reassure local residents that incidents like this are rare, and there will be extra officers in the area today to provide reassurance as our enquiries continue.

“We’d like to speak to anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area last night - no matter how small the details may seem, you could have important information that could help investigations.”

Warwickshire Police are urging anyone with any information to call 101, and quote incident number 348 of February 7.

Alternatively, you can make a report anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via their website http://www.crimestoppers-uk.org

Something not quite right here.

This is an ordinary street with no obvious signs of excessive wealth. Could it be that those responsible knew what they were looking for?
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.
