Council workers found the man in a side alley off Bishop Street, and police were called to the scene at around 4.30pm on Thursday, February 8.

The death is not being treated as suspicious at this time.

Three police cars were in attendance yesterday evening, as officers secured the scene.

Police tape remains in the area at this time, though there is no activity at the scene today.

The statement released by West Midlands Police revealed that the man has yet to be formally identified.

Clear up underway at derelict city centre site where man's body found

The city centre alleyway in which a man died last week has been tidied up.

Police were called to the alley that runs between Bishop Street and Chapel Street on Thursday evening after a man’s body was found by council workers .

The man’s identity and how he died have not yet been revealed.

A single bunch of flowers was placed at the scene after news of his death went public.

The alley, and the derelict land surrounding it, has been boarded up for several years, but the recent winter storms blew the wooden fencing down.

Overgrown shrubbery and weeds stretched the length of the alley, with litter everywhere.

Now some of the shrubbery has been cut back, and much of the litter cleared away.

A metal safety fence has also been put up making the area inaccessible once more.

The site was once home to Maplins Electronics before the building was demolished around six years ago.
