A young man has been jailed after he slashed the face of another teen.

Shai Dilbert was arrested following the unprovoked knife attack outside a dessert shop last year.

The 18-year-old, of Victoria Street, Hillfields, was found guilty by a jury at Warwick Crown Court last Friday of slashing a 17-year-old boy in the face outside Creams dessert lounge in Swanswell Street.

Dilbert was jailed for five years for wounding, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and possession of a class B drug.

The court heard the victim was attacked after intervening in an altercation that Dilbert was having with another lad.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “Dilbert was shouting in a threatening manner and opened his bag to reveal the handle of a knife.

"The 17-year-old lad was then slashed with the knife on his chin, leaving a 2cm slash wound.

“Dilbert showed no remorse and simply rode off on his bike.

“Although he did not require hospital treatment for the attack, he was left shocked and confused by the meaningless violence.

“Dilbert was arrested a few days later after a foot chase during which he dropped the very knife used in the attack.

“He’d been recognised by two PCSOs in the area from CCTV footage which had been circulated of him.”
