A pair of lovebirds dumped out into the Coventry cold have been rescued and given the royal treatment.

The RSPCA were alerted last Thursday when a passerby saw a woman putting a cage on the ground beside some bins in Lowfield Road.

Luckily the passerby had a closer look and discovered that the cage contained two budiges - who won’t stop kissing.

The birds, nicknamed Meghan and Harry after the prince and his fiance, were taken to a vet who discovered that despite the cold, the two are in good health.

Now living in luxury with RSPCA Inspector Herchy Boal, they will remain there until a place at a rehoming centre becomes available.

Inspector Boal is now investigating, with the woman who dropped the birds off described as “wearing a scarf and wooly hat”.

She said: “I can’t understand why these gorgeous budgies have been dumped like this. They are young and friendly and they are so in love, they just won’t stop kissing each other.

“I can only imagine this woman who was seen dumping their cage had decided she couldn’t or wouldn’t look after them anymore - she had even left bird seed in the cage so she obviously wanted to give them the best chance of survival. Either way, it’s really irresponsible to dump vulnerable birds like this out on such a cold night, anything could have happened to them.

“If anyone has any information about the birds’ previous owner, they can contact me on our inspector’s appeal line on 0300 123 8018.”

It comes at the end of a busy week for the RSCPA, who were called to collect and rehome some 350 budgies from a home in Sussex.
