Nuneaton's MP has been tasked with helping to take the Tories in a fresh, new direction in the cabinet reshuffle.

Prime Minister Teresa May has given Marcus Jones , the town’s MP, the role of a vice chair of the Conservative party with responsibilities for Local Government.

It means he is no longer a junior minister but instead holds a key role at Conservative Campaign Headquarters, formerly known as Conservative Central Office.

The father-of-two is one of a new wave of vice chairs that the Conservatives hope will take the party in a new direction.

The former Nuneaton and District Sunday League player explained that he received a phone call on Monday morning asking him to meet with the Prime Minister at Number 10 – and he was totally unaware of what would happen next.

“The Prime Minister offered me a senior role within the Conservative party and explained what the role will entail and was very clear how she wants to give the party a fresh direction and I was very pleased to accept it,” he said.

It is not only a new direction for the party, but also for Mr Jones.
