Masked gang jailed for total of nearly 50 years after armed robbery
Walker, 26, was sentenced to 12 years and Ferris, aged 28, to eight yearsA masked gang who threatened a security van driver with a machete and stole thousands of pounds in cash have been jailed for a total of nearly 50 years.
The balaclava-clad robbers targeted the van in Clifford Bridge Road before fleeing in a silver Mercedes following the robbery at around 7.30am on January 9 this year.
Police described the incident as a "terrifying experience".
Officers traced them to the outskirts of Coventry and a police chase broke out.
They managed to stop the Mercedes in Minworth, near Sutton Coldfield.
The cash box and a machete were recovered from inside.
Aaron Collins, Sean Walker and Daniel Ferris tried to flee the scene following the chase but were quickly arrested by officers and later charged.
Collins, who owned the Mercedes and Bowley, 41 were jailed for 17 years and 10 yearsA fourth man, Stephen Bowley, was later identified as having also formed part of the masked gang and was charged in connection with the robbery.
The four men, all from Birmingham, were jailed for a combined total of nearly 50 years on November 23.
Collins, aged 40, of Warwick Road, Solihull, who owned the Mercedes and Bowley, 41, of St Giles Road, Kitts Green, denied the charge but were convicted following a trial at Birmingham Crown Court.
They were jailed for 17 years and 10 years.
Walker, 26, of Kitts Green Road, Lea Village, was sentenced to 12 years and Ferris, aged 28, of Derrydown Close, Erdington, to eight years after pleading guilty.
