A pensioner has died after he was hit by a car which police say failed to stop.

Police and paramedics were called to Foleshill Road shortly after 10pm on Thursday.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Crews arrived to find an elderly man in cardiac arrest following a collision with a car.

“Ambulance staff immediately began CPR and administering advanced life support.

“However, sadly it became apparent that nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead at the scene.”

The 83-year-old victim had just left Parkstone Working Men's Club and was crossing the road with a friend when the collision happened.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "Police are investigating after an 83-year-old man sadly lost his life when he was knocked down by a car as he was crossing the Foleshill Road in Coventry at around 10.10pm on December 21.

"The man, who had just left the Parkstone Working Men’s Club, was crossing the road with a friend, when he was hit by the car which failed to stop.

"A 27-year-old man from Coventry has been arrested this morning on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a collision.

"His car has been seized and he is now assisting police with their enquiries.

Sgt Alan Wood, from the West Midlands Police Collision Investigation Unit, said: "Our thoughts are with the family of the man who lost his life when he had just been enjoying a pleasant evening with his friends.

"We understand what a shock this must have been for them.

“We are trying to establish exactly what took place and are keen to hear from anyone in the area at the time who may have seen what happened."

Man charged over death of pensioner just days before Christmas

A man has been charged with causing the death of a pensioner in Coventry just days before Christmas.

Police were called to Foleshill Road on the evening of Thursday, December 21, last year after the 83-year-old man was struck by a car.

The incident happened after the OAP had left the Parkstone Working Men's Club and was crossing the road with a friend at 10.10pm.

Paramedics tried to revive the man at the roadside but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police arrested a man later that day and have now brought charges against Bagri Parminder.

The 28-year-old, from Exhall Green, Exhall, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, perverting the course of justice, failing to stop after an accident and possession of a Class B drug.

He will appear before Birmingham Magistrates' Court on July 18.

A dangerous driver who killed a pensioner just days before Christmas has been jailed.

The 83-year-old victim was crossing Foleshill Road with a friend having left the nearby Parkstone Working Men's Club at around 10.10pm on December 21 when he was hit by a car.

Paramedics tried to revive the OAP at the roadside but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the car, Parminder Bagri, was arrested at the time and then released while detectives began their investigations.

The 28-year-old, from Exhall Green, Exhall, was eventually charged in June this year with causing death by dangerous driving.

Bagri pleaded guilty at Birmingham Crown Court today and was jailed for four years.

He was also banned from driving for six years.

Bagri also admitted charges of perverting the course of justice and possession of a Class B drug.

I think he got away very lightly, all things considered :fuming:
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.
